General information that is required to understand my research paper mostly lies in the general awareness of the effects of music on the brain.
As a baseline, it is important to note where the reaction of the brain takes place. Melodies stimulate the right side of the brain which is associated with creativity. Additionally, an individual's response will be stronger when listening to music (s)he enjoys.
The origin of music has been theorized to have been derived from our own heart beats. We are made of rhythms and with the development of language, song became the next logical step for us as humans. An alternative theory is that music was a way to develop community and to connect with others as music has become so significant in many cultures.
No matter the point of origin, music causes our brain to release dopamine on a molecular level. However, the emotional effects of song and instrumentals cannot be fully measured. No one may say how certain music will affect someone nor can a person adequately describe in truth what music causes him/her to feel. What is being addressed is the reasons to acknowledge the power in the ambiguity and subjectiveness of melodies and therefore using them as a way to examine our own faults and/or traits without fear of judgement.
