My name is Nikki Chancey and I am seventeen years of age. As a current senior at Mansfield High School, I enrolled in the Applied Learning Project in order to develop my character and improve my work ethic.
Although I have played an instrument for nearly eight years and my project is centered around music, my plans for college focus on my majoring in English and Psychology. I am undecided as to where I will be attending in the fall. However, I earned the Chancellor's Scholarship, covering full tuition and fees, to UMASS Boston. Additionally, I am quite active and interested in politics. I have attended peace rallies and protests and shown my support for those who are faced with prejudice for simply being themselves. I believe in the protection of those whose rights and well beings are threatened because sometimes there needs to others who are unaffected by the hate and judgement to join and help so that we may progress and achieve. This project offered me the opportunity to express an outlook on the media in the Unites States and how it affect the general population. Images shown to us can have damaging effects on our self-images and sense of self worth and we should question mainstream ideas when those ideas make us feel less about ourselves. I believe in kindness and despite a generally negative world around us, I know in order to create kindness you must be the kindness. |
